Mosquitoes with West Nile Virus have been confirmed in southeast Saskatchewan, with a recent confirmation occurring in Assiniboia.

"There is a moderate risk because of the heat," explained Dr. Mark Vooght, a medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. "The heat index is quite high at the moment, as we know, there's been recent rain, so we might see an upsurge in the number the Culex Tarsalis mosquitoes."

He added the mosquito known for carrying the virus, Culex Tarsalis, mainly comes out at night. There are traps deployed in the Weyburn area, however, none have reported catching a mosquito carrying the virus.
