The recent incident in Crosby, North Dakota, where a residential shooting prompted the lock down of two schools in the vicinity, may have people asking this question: What would our local law enforcement do?

Police Chief Paul Ladouceur explains how his team would approach a similar event.

"We assess each situation individually. However, there is nothing uncommon about doing school lock downs if there is a concern for the safety of kids."

"We would follow somewhat of a similar protocol," he added.

"We train very closely with the school division when it comes to serious violence or threats, and we do have plans in place, especially for public facilities and buildings."

He noted that, as a police organization, they always have to be prepared for an incident like the one south of the border.

"We hope that it never takes place, but we look at it as insurance. If we train and have all those safeguards ready, and it did happen, we would be glad that we had these protocols and plans in place," he expressed.

The incident was peacefully resolved, with individual in custody, and no injuries resulted.
