Residents of Southeast Saskatchewan are in for a few more hours of strong winds this afternoon.

"It's quite windy across most of the southern third of the province," explained regional meteorologist, Terri Laing. "Central Saskatchewan got most of the winds yesterday, but today it is southern Saskatchewan's turn as this cold front sweeps through."

"We've seen some wind gusts upwards to 83 kms per hour in the Estevan area, so quite brisk winds out there. It's nearing warning value."

"We're looking for a few more hours for this to stay up like this and then during the evening times, it should start to settle down."

She notes that when winds are this strong, residents are advised to stay indoors to avoid flying branches and other debris. Home owners are advised to put away any lawn furniture or move it into a safe spot in the yard.

"Often too, on the highways, especially if you are driving a big vehicle, you can have a lot of trouble staying on the road. We have seen cases like this when semi trailers get blown off the highway."

She adds that when high winds are involved, they often see power outages so people should always be prepared if the power does go out.
