After a three-day judge-only trial in the Court of Queen's Bench in Estevan, Metro Ignatiuk was acquitted of charges stemming from an incident that saw one person killed in 2015.

Ignatiuk, who was 68 at the time, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm in April of 2016. Estevan Police Service had consulted with the Crown Prosecutor's Office in Regina prior to laying charges.

This came after a fatal midday vehicle-pedestrian crash on 4th Street in Estevan that left 69-year-old Kathy Batke dead and injured a 74-year-old man.

Ignatiuk, who was not in custody, was tried by Judge Janet McMurtry from November 18-20. She released the not-guilty decision yesterday.
