While August is usually best known for being the month that transitions Summer into Fall, this August is looking to lean toward the former.

That comes from the analysis provided by Environment Canada, which is saying we'll see a dip in temperature fairly soon.

That'll be followed by another spike, says Meteorologist Natalie Hasell.

"If we look at the overall picture for not this week, but the week after we do see below normal temperatures for most of southern Saskatchewan. If we look a little bit more closely at Estevans forecast, we can find a little bit more information than the public forecast is mentioning."

She mentions that people can find this more specific info on the Environment Canada website under Analysis and Modeling.

“Looking at Estevan, we definitely see those warm temperatures. Then things cool off, but we could see a return to warmer weather towards the end of next week. That would be for the weekend, the 12th and 13th. Starting there we start to see temperatures build back up and remain warm to the 15th. So this might not be the last time we see very warm temperatures or hot temperatures in southern Saskatchewan. Right now, forecasts are suggesting a good possibility of temperatures ramping back up.”

In addition, there'll still be energy in the air that will go toward bringing some big thunderstorms, unlike last month.

"August is still a pretty busy month for the eastern prairies, so while I don't have as much of a certainty in the forecast for precipitation that far out, there are a number of models that are suggesting some pretty strong instances of precipitation and likely convections, so it would not surprise me if we saw more storms in the next little while."

That means people should take the proper precautions even as summer nears its end.

“It's still summer, it's still an active period, so people need to be prepared to continue dealing with this kind of weather. Paying attention to conditions, paying attention to the forecast, paying attention to what's happening around you, heat, smoke, thunderstorms, there's still all very much possible for the rest of the season.”
