The council is continuing to support the Southeast Transportation Planning Committee as the group's annual membership fee looks to be renewed.

Local communities were asked for $726 to cover the period of January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

The committee works on gathering information and looking at solutions for roads around the southeast that are handled by different jurisdictions.

Councillor Lindsay Clark is on that committee and talked to the council about some of the work they do.

"They certainly are sort of a voice to the province on roads in this area and I think they do a good job of doing that. They're also moving to the economic side where they're looking to say 'What's going on in your community that's going to change the use of the roads, what are the primary routes for the roads?'"

"It's an interesting committee because you have people from all over this corner telling you what's going on in their area. So the information that's gathered is invaluable for that."

"With some of the stuff that's going on, it's important that sometimes the road structure has to be done before the project is so it's a good chance for the government to hear what is going on in our area."

Councillor Clark made the motion to pay the annual membership fee to the committee, which has gone up compared to last year.

"The rates have gone up this year. It was three years ago when they raised them, there was a maximum of $660 that they didn't raise them. They left the maximum where it was. So this time we said it probably should go up, so they actually went up 10%, even though it didn't raise last time."

Mayor Roy Ludwig voiced his support for the Southeast Transportation Planning Committee, pointing out that they were one of the groups pushing for an access road resurfacing near Roche Percee.
