A light agenda at an Estevan city council meeting Monday night was spearheaded by a presentation on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Stanley Enebeli from the Saskatchewan Health Authority provided an updated report on the pandemic in Saskatchewan.

The presentation revealed that Saskatchewan currently has both the fourth highest test rate and the fourth highest test positivity rate out of all provinces in Canada.

Omicron also remains the dominant variant in Saskatchewan.

Interestingly, the report stated that in general, men are more at risk of getting the virus than women. This is separate from the at-risk groups, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Enebeli also said that 80 per cent of the provincial population now has two doses of the vaccine.

Estevan is still holding pop up clinics for anyone who still wants to get vaccinated, including a clinic on Tuesday March 1 from 12-6 p.m. at the West Estevan Mall across from St. Joseph's Hospital, with both Pfizer and Moderna available.
