A case of a driver fleeing an attempted traffic stop has turned into a stolen-vehicle investigation for the Estevan Police Service.

Police attempted to stop a red Ford F-150 pickup truck on the east side of town in the early-morning hours on Tuesday. But EPS Sgt. Tyler McMillen said the driver sped away.

"Police initially were going to write it a speeding ticket and then investigate a possible impaired driving, but the vehicle continued to accelerate away."

McMillen said they opted not to pursue it onto the Highway 18 access road into Bienfait for public-safety reasons.

Then police received a report during the day Wednesday that the truck had been stolen on Tuesday night from an Estevan residence on Perry Crescent.

The year of the truck is around 2009. It had an Alberta license plate - BJZ 2673. Though McMillen said it's possible the plates have since been switched.

"If you see a suspicious vehicle or something sitting for a lengthy period of time and area that doesn't make sense, call your local police and we will come and check it out and recover it if it's the one we're looking for."

McMillen said their investigation has included checking for cameras in front of the Perry Crescent area and in the alley.
