A new initiative by the local business community has been planted that is hoped to further improve the possibilities when it comes to the economy in the area. This is in the form of a new Economic Development Board, announced at the Estevan Chamber of Commerce's Annual General Meeting held last week.

"It's purpose is to give an all-encompassing direction from the area, from council, from members-at-large and various types of businesses on how different ideas can come together to spearhead economic development in the Energy City," explained City Manager Jeff Ward.

"It's been established, and the members have been chosen. Now we are going to look at making the terms and references on how this board is going to operate and how it's directives come through."

Estevan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jackie Wall revealed how it will look.

"It's going to have two voting representatives from the City, two from the Chamber, two from the RM of Estevan and five members-at-large."

"It will provide a broad spectrum to pull our strategic plan from, and to provide guidance to the economic development officer," she concluded.

While some of the details have yet to be hashed out, those involved are optimistic about the effect that the Board will have on the region.
