The Estevan and District Music Festival is in full sing as the piano portion wrapped up Monday night at the Trinity Lutheran Church. And the next part of the Festival, Voice and Speech Art is underway. President Esther Bangsund looked on with delight as student after student put their heart out there for all to hear.

With a smile Esther said, “I’m very proud of each one as it is such a great event, and something each one can look forward to and work for. Just the attitude of each one involved, the players were just all so respectful of one another.”

Great crowds throughout the Festival to celebrate the 54th year and of course none of this would have been possible without the countless amount of hours put in by the volunteers. Esther mentioned, “We have great volunteers.” In order for the festival to continue to operate and run smoothly they are always looking for volunteers before, during, and after the Festival.

“This is my first year of being President,” Esther added that she feels good about it as she has many past presidents helping her out.

With over $10,000 in scholarships to win, many young person entered into the Music Festival. And 33 scholarships were handed out ranging from $25-$500. The Shirley Andrist-Outstanding Piano Performance Award was given to Leah MacFarlane for $500.00. Which of course was the top prize of the awards night, and it went to a deserving young lady.

“There is something for everyone, and it’s the 54th year and were very proud of that,” she added.

Congratulations to the piano players in the first part of the Music Festival.
