In the southeast more holiday plans may be suffering as more cases of flu have been reported in the southeast.

The most recent CRISP (Community Respiratory Illness Surveillance Program) Report notes that while COVID numbers have decreased flu cases have increased in the Southeast. 

The CRISP report from December 16 stated that Influenza A was the most detected respiratory illness in the province accounting for 47 percent of hospitalizations from respiratory illnesses while COVID accounted for 37 per cent. 

COVID numbers were down for the fifth consecutive week with people between the ages of 20-64 were the demographic most impacted by COVID. 

Locally influenza cases increased from 22.6 per cent to 48.9 per cent of respiratory-related illnesses. School absenteeism rose from 12.1 percent to 18.4 percent.

Province-wide influenza hospitalizations decreased from 286 to 202 in the most recent two weeks which is a 29 per cent decrease. 

Influenza ICU admissions stayed around 37 for the last 4-week period while COVID-19 ICU admission remained at 13 for the past 4 weeks. 

These numbers reflect how the area was affected heading into the holiday season the next CRISP report will be released on January 5.
