Photographing a hawk is one of the toughest tasks one can take on. First you need to find them, and you need to find them within a reasonable distance. Most of the time you don't get such an opportunity, because they break into flight quickly. It seems as soon as the rhythm of the tires change, they are gone.

For whatever reason this one stayed on a gate post just long enough for me to be ready. I managed to get a couple shots of it before it lifted off, then two quick ones in flight.
