It was a bright and early Monday morning for the Estevan Fire Department, as they received a call for an incident in the north central part of town.

"Right around 8:00 AM, crews were notified to the report of a motor-home that was on fire in the Estevan Exhibition Grounds," said Fire Chief Dale Feser.

"It was locked, and thank goodness there were no occupants inside. We quickly suppressed the blaze, and there was no extension to the ground at all."

He noted that, while a such and event in a motor-home can be unusual, there are a number of electronics inside these units, in addition to gas and propane equipment.

"You have your fridges, heaters and air conditioners, as well as a bunch of electrical. You want to make sure that anybody who is getting ready to use the motor-home takes a look at those appliances and gets them serviced. If there's frayed cords or anything like that, ensure that you get them repaired."

"It's no different than your house. Everybody has to remember that they will be sleeping in there, so make sure that there is a functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detecting device that is inside the motor-home as well," added Feser.

"Thank goodness we were alerted to it by a passerby, who witnessed the fire and called it in immediately. That way it allowed crews to get there in a timely manner to ensure that it did not spread to any outbuildings or subsequent ground fires as a result."
