Over the weekend, Oxbow Pool hosted their Shamrock Splash fundraising event, with all funds dedicated to covering pool-related expenses.

The St. Patrick’s Day-themed event proved to be a huge success, featuring cocktails, dinner, and comedian Joel Jeffery, followed by a dance.

“We sold 154 tickets for the supper and the comedian, and then we had the doors open for people to attend the dance after 9:30,” said Tegan Batt, Oxbow swimming pool secretary.

The pool, which opened in 2019, boasts a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool.

“All the money raised goes directly to funding our pool expenses per season,” said Batt. “So those are things like loan repayment, any facility expenses, and guard certifications.”

She added that surrounding communities such as Alameda, Frobisher, and Glenn Ewen utilize the swimming pool for certifications and swimming lessons throughout the summer months.

Usually, the group hosts a Lobster Fest in June, but another local community will be hosting a fundraiser during that time.

Batt noted that none of these events could be done without support from the community.

“Lobster Fest has been around for 20 years, and we have always had numerous groups that step forward to help us with that because it is such a large event.”

This event required quite a few community volunteers to run, and some donations were also given from local organizations.
