The community got a slice of the Maritimes on Friday night, as the Rotary Club of Estevan hosted its annual Lobster Fest at Affinity Place.

"I think it went extremely well. Great turnout and the weather just about held up for us, which was great. We thought it was going to be a washout, but nope. We got it all cooked and done," shared President Terry Williams.

The event saw over 80 tables filled with hungry diners craving a lobster and steak dinner. It also featured Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, a 50/50 and silent auction with items donated by local businesses. Williams noted that while it wasn't a sold-out affair, the club appreciates the amount of people that came out for the event. "Everyone loves it. It's such an experience and if you haven't been, you really should try it."

Mayor Roy Ludwig was volunteering at the event, helping the organizers with setting up, selling drink tickets and tear down. He talked about the amount of work various volunteers had done to prepare for the event. "It takes a lot of time and effort by the club from ordering the lobster, ordering the steak, getting the venue together. Most of the people showed up from the Rotary Club and made all of the tables, all of the tablecloths ready, put all of the Kentucky Fried Chicken containers on the table, [and] put all of the signage up that you see. That way we're ready for today. It's just a total group effort by the Rotary Club."

Funds raised by the Rotary Club from the event go towards helping other charities and organizations around the area. Ludwig reiterated that the money stays local and that he's impressed with the amount of sponsors that showed their support.

"We could not do it without our community coming and with our community sponsors. We've got so many community sponsors that come year after year, buy a table, buy a couple of tables. Without them, this event would not be possible. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank our community sponsors [in] this great community of Estevan. Nobody comes to the table like the people of Estevan and like the sponsors for all of these events we have."
