Saskatchewan residents may have gotten used to seeing higher recovery numbers before yesterday's decline in that category, and they saw those high numbers again today. Unfortunately, they also saw something else they've been getting sadly accustomed to seeing: deaths from the virus.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority announced seven new deaths in patients who had tested positive for COVID-19 today. One of those people who died was in their 20s, a resident of the North West Zone. Another resident in their 50s died in the Central West area. Five residents over the age of 80 also died, four in Saskatoon and one in Regina.

The SHA also reported 194 new cases of COVID-19 today for a provincial total of 12,342. Recoveries jumped up today as well, however, to 363 for a total of 8130. This means there are now 4204 active cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan, 124 of which require hospitalization. The seven-day average of daily new cases is 263.

Today's new cases are located in the Far North West (13), Far North Central (1), Far North East (11), North West (28), North Central (21), North East (2), Saskatoon (53), Central East (5), Regina (37), South West (1), South Central (5) and South East (14) zones. Three cases have pending residence information, while three more cases that were pending were assigned to Regina.

Today's new cases in the South East are not in Estevan's subzone. Subzone southeast four continues to have just three of the 160 cases in the southeast. This is also still the lowest number of active cases of any subzone.

There have been 391,410 tests for COVID-19 performed in Saskatchewan so far. Yesterday, the province performed 2438 tests.
