Estevan City Councillor Lindsay Clark is adjusting to his new role as a part of the Southeast Transportation Committee as they nominate the paved roads in the area that need some attention this year. There are three roads they are looking at this year, and two of them have already been submitted to the Ministry of Highways.

"There's lots of highways and lots of nominations, and they don't all get done, but what we have nominated is two roads, one from the bypass north of town to the Lampman turn (Highway 47), and one from about Boundary Dam out to Outram (Highway 18) that we think need attention."

The third road they plan to submit for repairs this year is heading into the village of Roche Percee, and that is currently in the process of being nominated by the SETC. The roads that are being worked on seem to be a natural progression from what's been done in the past, and especially when it comes to Highway 47.

"They've done a great job going down south towards the Noonan crossing. That one's got done. Certainly the bypass and towards North Portal are completed, and from Lampman corner to Stoughton has been done so it's just a logical next step that that would be your next that we would hope would be the next one that they would do."

While it isn't so much a SETC issue, being a part of that committee has made Clark take a bit of a closer look at the roads in Estevan as well. While there may not be any major refurbishments on the residential streets this year, it is something that Clark at the very least wants to look at and assess what it would take for some fix ups.

"They've done a good job with the last Council of the doing the main arteries, they are fairly good. We have some residential streets that are now in less than adequate shape I guess, I don't know how to say it any nicer, but we don't know as new councillors what's going on or where we're at with that. So I what I've asked is that they bring us up to speed, let's see where it is and let's start seeing if in the next round of budget we can start focusing on the residential streets that need immediate repair because there's lots of times there's huge costs and huge infrastructure involved with that."

The SETC oversees a large area that spans from Estevan all the way to the Manitoba border, and all the way up north to Highway 1, so Clark is still learning the ropes with the new position in our district that helps get the roads fixed in the area. He shared credit towards former Estevan City Councillor Dennis Moore, who was the city's representative on the committee as well as the chair of the committee.
