When asked about what kind of year Midale has had, Al Hauglum Mayor of Midale had this to say. “It hasn’t been an eventful year, by any means. But we’ve been hanging around with a few new additions of people. Its been a status quo kind of year for 2018. And we’re hoping things pick up and we can start building again.”

Mayor Hauglum had this to say when asked about the exciting things coming up. “Oh for sure, its already opened, we opened the pool. The weekend before the July Long weekend we had the pool open. We now have both pools open, we fixed up our paddling pool this year and now it is functional for the young kids.”

“The first weekend it was open, it was at capacity the first day.” He gushed about the pool.
In regards to notable infrastructure, “We’re pretty excited about the infrastructure, we are going to be resurfacing our Main Street. And we were hoping to have that done for the August long weekend, but things took a little bit longer than we thought. The contractor got booked up, so it will be after the long weekend in August that they get started on Main Street. And then we have 2 others streets that we will be resurfacing also, Eisenhower North and Stephen Street. For a small town its a lot of money put into this.”

As for Parks and Recreation, “We’ve got our pool for the summer months, and I know our library has stuff going on all summer long. We do have Manley Park on the North side of the tracks, we do have a ball tournament coming up. On the long weekend of August we have the Rodeo. That starts Friday night, the ball tournament starts Friday night. The Rodeo is going Saturday with some Barrel Racing, that will be new to the rodeo this year.”

“The Souris Valley Antique Association will be doing their Threshing Bee, they’ll have all the old equipment running and selling their famous Saskatoon Pie up at the grounds. It will be open to view all the old buildings and the museum downtown. The Moser collection, its one of the biggest single collections in Saskatchewan.”

And the main thing that has Midale standing out from the rest, “I’ve always said it, its the people, the people make your community. You see with all the events happening, that’s the people of the community doing that. And that’s what makes it special, everyone joins in to help out with the community.”

“And we have our Park just South of the Midale, Mainprize Regional Park. Beautiful golf course, we’re proud of that too. And good fishing out there, so come visit Midale and Mainprize. We welcome everybody.”
