After their championship win as the underdogs, the U11 A Bearcats received honours from the Estevan City council last night.

They attended the meeting, presenting the banner won from a tournament earlier this month.

The team had a lot of practice leading up to the game, as explained by coach Kaila Jutras.

"Our team is made up of female hockey players from Estevan, Carievale, and Macoun. These girls practice three times a week and worked hard all year in their season to head into the league final tournament as the first place team in the south division with a record of eighteen wins and two losses."

While the team did have a great record during the regular season and performed very well in round-robin play, they soon found a stiff competitor.

"The Western Praire Klippers had went undefeated in their season and now also in their round robin. We would go into the league final game on Sunday as the second place team, playing the Western Praire Klippers for the league title."

"It was in this game that the Bearcats would apply everything that they've learned this year and put all their hard work to use as the Klippers were handed their first loss of the season. The Estevan Bearcats would be crowned the Saskatchewan Female U11 Hockey League champions."

The experience of the season left Jutras with nothing but praise for the girls from the team.

"The dedication shown by these ladies was beyond what any of us as coaches could have imagined. They always came with smiles on their faces and a work ethic that showed. They all wanted to grow and be the best players that they could be."
