The Addictions Recovery Centre at St. Joseph's Hospital is hoping to re-open next week after a COVID outbreak hit the facility earlier this month.

The outbreak was declared back on Jan. 3 and the centre has been closed to new patients ever since.

Now, the centre is hoping to resume its regular admission and treatment services as early as mid next week.

"We've been doing regular testing every three days of our patients and everyone is symptom free and negative," said Mark Pettitt, Director of Support Services with St. Joseph's Hospital.

Currently the addictions centre is not allowing visitors. All staff working at the centre are either doubled vaccinated or are testing regularly, Pettitt said.

"We've been using technology to link our patients up with their families, and doing our family day, which is on Sundays, so that they can visit with their family and go through some of the key steps in the process of addiction recovery with their family," he said. "It's been working and we're looking forward to the day when we can have family members come in for the day and see their loved one in person."

Pettitt said there is no timeline as of yet for when the centre might start allowing visitors again.
