On July 1st, 1867, three British colonies agreed to amalgamate into one Dominion of Canada.

Now, 150 years later, everyone is preparing to mark a major anniversary of the event, and the celebrations are bound to be a doozy.

Communities all around southeast Saskatchewan are planning a variety of festivities for the occasion, and that includes the Town of Bienfait.

"150 is a milestone for our country, and so we've jumped on board and tried to improve our Canada Day celebrations as everybody else has. We're going to start with our parade in the morning, and throughout the day we're going to have all kinds of events," shared Mayor Paul Carrol.

These will include a show and shine, slow pitch, toonie swim at the pool, cake and house decorating, bingo, a mini fireman's rodeo, the annual firemen and farmers ball game, and petting zoos and the museum will be open.

"We're going to start our morning with a pancake breakfast, and close things off with fireworks in the evening."

He added that they may have a reenactment of Annie Buller's speech, which took place two days before the 1931 Black Tuesday riots associated with the miner's strike.

"We encourage people to come out and watch both the parade and the fireworks. However, use caution and watch for pedestrians as they are coming and going from both events."
