Moosomin district regional park had its 10th annual fireworks competition on the long weekend.

Three years ago the competition moved to an international one which sees Canada and another country try to out spectacle each other in there fireworks displays.

This year Canada faced off with the Philippines, with the Philippines taking home the trophy.

Layne Mcfarlane Organizer with the event said that they have been very fortunate to have more and more people attending each year.

"We ordered seven thousand wristbands for each of the two nights and on the Sunday night when the Philippines performed, we ran out of wristbands, so everyone was of course allowed in the park and we still charged admission but that indicates we had more than seven thousand."

The exact numbers in attendance aren't currently known, Mcfarlane says events like this are busy, but a fun time for the community.

“Its always great to have to say, twelve thousand people, come into your community over a two day period. The hotels are busier, the restaurants are busier, the food stores are busier and its just a great event for the entire community

Mcfarlane goes on to say that the year was particularly special as it really brought out the Filipino community

“They preformed, they had a food booth here, it was really special to have such an active involvement from this community.”

Money raised from the event will go toward Moosomins Water Treatment plant which was built to meet water quality safety standards.

Mcfarlane finished by adding he really appreciated all those who came out from Estevan to see the show.
