The rural community of Alida is located on Hwy 318 in the extreme southeast corner of the province. It offers a small core of businesses and recreational facilities and is within an easy driving distance of larger communities, tourist attractions, and outdoor recreational opportunities. As its town sign proclaims, it's "Home of Act One Productions," a local theatre group which presents a variety of performances throughout the year.

Alida is quite the amazing community and here is what their Mayor Jim Boeggcher had to say about the type of year they have had. “Its been a good year, we actually completed the upgrade on our Water Works. We spent $417,000.00 on that, of which $240,000.00 the Federal Government split that. And were also doing a lift station upgrade, on our sewer and spend another 100 thousand there. And basically things will go on.”

Jim gave us the updates on the events going on in Alida, “Well, for one thing our swimming pool is open, we got that going and its good there. And there is an auction sale coming up, which will bring a few people back to Alida.” Also, Act One Productions Drama Club celebrate 26 years of drama, one of the communities biggest fundraisers. And a great thing for the everyone in Alida or those who want to see some great performances.

“We talked with Shelley Cowan and her group is going to hold their Haunted House again this year. We missed a year because of the flood.”

Upcoming infrastructure in Alida, “We’re doing some street repair, like some repaving, nothing big though.”

The village recreation boasts a lot as Jim states, “We have a campground, the Lions Campground is full service 30 amp service there. And we have a Lion’s playground by the hall. And our rink was completely rebuilt, and this is the first year its been back in operation completely.”

And Mayor Jim Boeggcher really loves his community and had to share why Alida is special, “We’re very fortunate we have a few groups that work really hard to keep things going. They make the rest of us look good.”

This Salute goes out to the lovely community of Alida.
