The Estevan Police Service is fielding more and more reports of bike thefts recently.

Cst. Lana Gropp said the locations vary where bikes are being taken from, but a constant is they aren't being secured.

"Some of them have been taken from public places, like by the Leisure Centre. Sometimes people have just left them lying on their front grass, or taken them into other businesses but don't lock them up."

She said it's crucial you lock your bike up and have your serial number written down somewhere, in case the bike is stolen.

"We have a hard time proving that the person is in possession of a stolen bike if we can't compare a serial number to the owner."

Gropp said JS Truckmart has been collecting bikes that are reported as being abandoned. So if you're missing your bike, they could be worth checking in with.
