Those living in Macoun woke up Thursday morning to a Boil Water Advisory.

"It was issued around midnight last night. This was due to a depressurization in our water plant on the west side of Macoun due to a potential leak," said Carmen Dodd-Vicary, the Chief Administrative Officer.

"It appears that the leak hasn't surfaced yet, meaning that we haven't been able to locate the problem."

She stated that they had to turn the water off overnight, however, it is back on now. As long as their stored supply is not used up too quickly, it will remain on.

"If it does start to get low again, we may have to shut it off overnight just to recuperate our storage. Once the leak is located we should be able to get it repaired quite quickly and resolve the issue."

Normal procedure in events like this requires the advisory to be in effect until further notice, and will be removed once the Water Security Agency has received a couple of clean samples. In this case it will require 6, so Dodd-Vicary expects it to take a couple of weeks.

"Make sure you check your yards and basements. Watch for any running toilets or leaking faucets. If you notice your ground to be excessively wet in any particular area, please contact the Village office," she advised.

"Keep your eyes open. Talk to your neighbors. The sooner we can find it, the sooner we can fix the problem."

Dodd-vicary added that residents should use bottled water, however, a reverse-osmosis system is fine as well.

Residents are also asked to boil all water designated for any other uses involving ingestion, such as brushing the teeth and washing fruits and vegetables. However, the regular supply can be used for showering and laundry.

The advisory applies to all those living west of Appleton Avenue in the Town of Macoun.
