On Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th, two separate incidents took place close to Elstow and Roche Percee involving collisions between semi-trailers and trains.

In both cases, no injuries were reported. In case of the collision near Roche Percee on Tuesday, one charge of Disobeying a stop signal at a railway crossing has been laid on the semi-driver involved in the accident.

These two accidents should serve as a reminder to both professional truck drivers and motorists on the importance of being safe around railway property and tracks.

"Motorists and pedestrians should always exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings," stated Jeremy Berry of Canadian Pacific Railway Media Relations. "That includes the possibility that a train may be approaching in either direction at any time."

"A loaded freight train needs approximately 2 kilometers to come to a complete stop." Berry said.

In 2016, there were 133 vehicle vs. train incidents in Canada; 19 resulted in fatalities. (Source: TSB Canada)

These significant and unnecessary personal risks often tragically result in death or severe injuries.
