There are many signs that spring is on the way, but one of the surest is the rush to sign up for warmer weather sports from softball to soccer. The City of Estevan has announced the date for city-wide registration, which some see as the unofficial start of spring.

On March 31, from 5:30 to 8:30, you'll be able to find all kinds of local sports organizations camped out at the Leisure Center in the multi-purpose room, and perhaps even spilling into Affinity Place. Erin Wilson, the city's program manager, has had this date circled on her calendar for a while.

"City-wide is one of my favorite dates to pick, so I'm really excited," she said. "I love the hustle and bustle of it, trying to help organize keeping kids busy and off the video games, that's a special day for me."

According to Wilson, spring city-wide is one of their busiest days of the year. Softball, soccer, and a slew of other sports take over the multi-purpose room, and so many groups have signed up that they may need to spill into a larger space.

"We're either getting bigger by groups or we're getting bigger by the individuals that are looking for more information," Wilson said. "Sometimes the lineups can take up just as much space as the user groups themselves and then it gets really challenging to see everything that's happening."

Wilson said they may move into Affinity Place, assuming the hockey schedule can accommodate. She added that any groups that haven't gotten in touch with the city but think they should be at registration day can reach out to her.

On the day itself, there are so many organizations there that it's almost like a shopping mall for summer sports. And Wilson says even if you don't sign up for anything, it's good to come out and get a look at what each sport has to offer.

"It's a great setup for just finding out information," she said. "You don't have to come and register for anything, but certainly come and get information and get ready for future seasons. Get all the information possible just to prepare for it."
