Perhaps no street in the southeast has been busier for construction than 3rd street in Estevan so far this summer. From road patching to sewer replacements, crews have been there on an almost weekly basis for one project or another. This week's project is a service termination.

"I would like to advise the public that the 600 block of 3rd street is closed today with no thru-traffic due to a service termination," said City EMO Coordinator Helen Fornwald. "The public is requested to avoid this area until the construction work has been completed."

Fornwald said the work on 3rd Street so far this summer, which has included multiple patching efforts, has gone smoothly. She also expected the work being done today won't have to carry over into tomorrow.

"As things pop up, they're reacting really quickly," she said. "We're trying to be more proactive and get the repairs done quickly."

Temperatures today are supposed to hit a high of about 31 degrees, which will feel more like 36 with the humidity. Fornwald said crews will be looking out for each other and keeping a close eye on their hydration levels to help beat the extreme heat. A heat warning may be issued for the southeast over the next two days.
