With football season wrapping up, ECS is preparing for the next sport in line.

Basketball season is among us, and in the recent years, it has grown in popularity.

"With the help of the Estevan Student Basketball Organization and Estevan Thunder Girls Club Basketball that Kevin Kobitz runs and winning the McLeod Series back to back has really boost the interest of basketball in our community," shared Jessie Smoliak, Senior Girls Basketball Coach.

With the help of her assistant, Ashleigh Dzuba, Coach Smoliak will be leading the her team to battle.

One of the main competitions that gets the crowd on their feet is the McLeod Series. The Elecs is currently holding the Championship Title, and has been for the past two years. However, their Highway 39 Rival, the Weyburn Eagle, has put a target on their backs.

"All we need to do is stay focused on our goal and practice hard. We are in a lot of competitive tournaments this season such as Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw which will help us prepare for the games against Weyburn."

She admits that with the Rivalry and the McLeod Series, their main focus is Weyburn. In that regard, she's also looking out for other teams in the league.

"We really want to make it to HOOPLA, which is the provincial competitions for basketball, so that's another goal that we've set for our team."

On that note, basketball tryouts will be on Monday, November 21st. The Girls will kick off the night at 4:00pm, while the Boys will follow at 6:00pm. She encourages ECS students to participate and be a part of the team.
