Fuel Good Day took place earlier this week, with Co-op convenience stores across Western Canada giving a portion of their proceeds to their choice of charities.

Here in the Southeast, the charitable event was held here in Estevan, with stores in Oxbow and Carlyle also joining in to help their own causes.

The day saw stores across Western Canada donate five cents for every liter of gasoline sold, which is also matched by FCL.

Cindy Koch manages the Co-op convenience store on 4th street and was one of the participants in Fuel Good Day.

They decided to donate to a cause that would help those with disabilities lead a more normal life.

"Both Estevan locations went for Limitless Disability Advocacy," said Koch, "They work to make things more accessible for people with disabilities. So playground equipment that children with disabilities can make use of, as well as businesses that need help with wheelchair ramps, that kind of thing."

The convenience stores raised money throughout the day, with Koch sharing the total after a day of sales.

"The Estevan locations, for the Limitless Disability Advocacy, we raised $2,989.40. Our Carlyle location was the Southeast Victim Services, and they raised $1,945.60. our Oxbow location was for Bow Valley Villa and they raised $1046."

Koch was very thankful to the Estevan community, which she says has always been great at raising money for charity.

"Estevan is always very good at supporting the different charities and being behind things like that. we had people that said 'oh, I was running on fumes because I was waiting until today to buy some fuel'. we also had the radio station cover us as well and a lot of people heard that and thought 'oh well, I better come in.'"
