The Green Party's Sigfredo Gonzalez Was Humbled Again Last Night

The Provincial Election wrapped up last night. In Estevan, Doreen Eagles of the SaskParty was reelected at the expense of the NDP and the Green Party. Sigfredo Gonzalez was once again the Green Party candidate, and his loss to Eagles last night was his 4th defeat head to head with the MLA dating back to 1999.

Gonzalez was again defeated in a land slide fashion. He received the least amount of Estevan votes for the 4th straight election, receiving just 209 votes, or 3.5%. Gonzalez was disappointed with vote but wasn't to surprised to see a SaskParty win. He says he was paying attention to pre-election polls and all had indicated the SaskParty was dominating in popularity.

The Green Party as a whole had a disappointing election. Gonzalez says the Green's were hoping to win at least one seat but none of their Candidates were even close. The most votes a Green candidate received was 500, and that still finished 3rd. Green Party Leader, Victor Lao, ran in Regina Douglas Park and fell to Russ Marchuk of the SaskParty. Marchuck defeated Lao and the former NDP Leader, Dwain Lingenfelter.

Gonzalez doesn't feel his days are done with the Green Party. He would love the opportunity to run again.

Gonzalez wants to remind anyone who voted for him that their vote wasn't wasted and encourages everyone to continue voting in future elections. Gonzalez hopes people pay more attention to what the government says because he feels most people don't dissect any information the government passes along to citizens. He is still passionate about rent control and would like to see the doctor situation improved within the next 4 years.
