The province's southeastern highways closed Wednesday afternoon with the blizzard continuing to wreak havoc on the region.

Highways across the southeast had already been listed as "travel not recommended," but by 3:45 p.m. that had changed to "closed" for everything east of Highway 47 and south of Carlyle.

Highway 39 between Estevan and Midale was also closed, though the "travel not recommended" designation remained at the time for the Weyburn area.

"Please refrain from travelling in these areas if possible," stated the Saskatchewan RCMP in an email. "If things look clear/roads okay at your planned time of departure, make sure you still check the forecast and Highway Hotline as weather and road conditions can change very quickly.

"If you can’t reschedule your travel plans, please ensure you’re well prepared with warm clothes, an emergency kit, a fully charged cell phone, etc. Share your travels plans with someone and check in with them regularly."

The City of Estevan is also advising the public to avoid travel within the city.
