Drivers that use the City of Estevan Bypass, or that have traveled along the highway 47 recently may have noticed there are wired pedestals around the junction of the bypass and the highway.

"If folks have noticed the pedestals they are the early stages of warning lights in advance of the junction of highway 47 and the City of Estevan bypass." stated Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Highways Dan Palmer.

The placement of warning lights has been prompted by the frequent collisions that occur on the highway junction, and also the high level of traffic that uses the bypass daily.

"Safety is the top priority for the ministry , and these lights are an additional tool to warn motorists of this intersection," added Palmer.

The lights will flash relative to the direction a driver is travelling. With the Highway being equipped with stop lights and the bypass given caution lights.

"For motorists traveling North and South on highway 47 there will be overhead stop signs equipped with flashing lights to warn of the stop," Palmer stated, "For the West and East bound traffic there will be flashing overhead lights to warn drivers of the important intersection."

The lights are expected to be completed before the end of 2016, with the project already started.
