Justiss Daoust is a student of the Estevan Comprehensive School is competing on the world stage in Fort Worth, Texas.

The sport is called "cutting", where a rider herds cattle while on a horse. The challenge is to remove the cattle in a short amount of time. The competitors are judged based on their finesse, their strategy, and how well the rider and the horse finish the task.

"It's been a really big accomplishment for me. I set my goals this last summer just to be Top 5 in Canada. Being able to chase this title and making my way down here; it's just been a great experience. It feels really good to be with some of the best athletes in this industry," she mentioned.

It was a long journey across North America to get her to this point.

"We started showing in Saskatchewan this past April. Since then, I went to a lot of competition in the spring and summer. I was competing in places like Montana and Wyoming. Once I found out that I was qualified to participate in the Finals, I kept on competing in Montana and Utah."

"All of my family have supported me from the beginning. Ever since I was young, they always pushed me to chase those dreams of mine and keep it going. I eventually found that this sport is something I really enjoy," she added.

Part of her success comes from her supportive family. He grandmother provided her a horse and her parents have made sure that she was able to go to the place she needed to go in the past few years.

"If you can believe in yourself, you can go anywhere. It doesn't happen overnight and you gotta keep working through it day-by-day. You win some, and you lose some, but you get to where you need to be. If you work hard enough, it'll happen for you," she shared.

She will be competing in the World Finals starting on November 30th and will continue until from there on. The event concluded on Saturday, December 3rd.
