McHappy Day came and went with the Estevan McDonald's helping out to raise money for a Ronald Mcdonald House here in Saskatchewan.

The event takes a portion of all sales from any item sold on that day, and pools that money together with other McDonald's to give to a local Ronald McDonald House.

The McHappy Day wasn't able to be held last year due to the pandemic, so this year it was especially important to raise funding for a cause.

Owner and Operator of McDonald's Estevan Christine Jenish explains some of what they did.

"This year was different than what we've had in the past, whereby there was a percentage of our sales that went directly to the Ronald McDonald House," said Jenish, "We also had merchandise that we were selling, which included things like the paper hearts that were all over the interior in our store, and we also had some volunteers who were kind enough to come in and help us sell some merchandise through our drive-through."

The Ronald McDonald House that any Estevan family may have had to use is located in Saskatoon.

Jenish says that the House has taken in around 17 families from Estevan in nearly a month.

"Ronald McDonald House has a place in Saskatchewan here where sick children who need to go and stay in Saskatoon, the house provides them with a place to be able to stay," said Jenish "The House has gone ahead and had people from Estevan who have to use the house who have spoken highly of the quality of the volunteers and the team that runs the house.

"For us, McHappy Day is a way for us to go ahead and give back to the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon to help support them in their great cause that they do for us and other communities in the province of Saskatchewan."

The McDonald's here in Estevan finished tallying up their proceeds this morning, coming up with a number that impressed Jenish.

"We actually finished getting those done this morning, and the McHappy day was a huge success," said Jenish, "Today the total number of dollars we are donating is $4,056."
