While the idea of the raising minimum wage may seem like a good idea, the Estevan Board of Tourism, Trade and Commerce is quick to point it actually isn't.

The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour is proposing that minimum wage be raised from $9.25 to $15.66. Community Development Manager Michel Cyrenne was quick to point the downside of the increased wage.

Cyrenne even pointed out the current situation in Manitoba. "They just raised minimum wage from $ 9.00 to 9.50 and there is some significant concern within there in what's happening in their private sector. You usually see some negative effect with the raising of the minimum wage."

Cyrenne does provide some suggestions to help out lower income families. "Things like reducing the tax bill. Saskatchewan and Alberta have done a good job of lowering the taxes paid by lower income families and that is the sort of thing have direct result and direct benefits for those families."
