Pools in Saskatchewan won't be able to open until the as-yet undated phase four of the province's plan to reopen, but that's not stopping the town of Stoughton from getting theirs up to speed. One of their bigger projects so far this summer involves a new heater for their swimming pool.

"We're installing a new pool heater at the swimming pool," said town shop foreman Tom Creighton. "And then most of our renovations there should be complete."

After last summer, when several communities around the southeast dealt with flooding, Stoughton has been grateful for a relatively calm summer so far on the repair front. Creighton said they've had only minor issues to deal with so far.

"We've had just one minor water leak this spring, so touch wood," he added. "We had to replace a curb stop and that's about it."

The lack of bigger projects or emergency repairs has allowed Stoughton, a community of about 700 people roughly 60 kilometers north of Estevan, to focus on some more general maintenance. Their streets were in need of some TLC, and that's one of their ongoing efforts.

"I think we're going to do some paving this year finally in town," Creighton said. "Some of the streets that need to get refinished are going to get done."

But the big project for Stoughton in the late spring and early summer is a brand new credit union coming to the town. As of now, they have a credit union operating out of a building on Main Street. The new one won't be moving very far.

"The new credit union is under construction in Main Street in town," said Creighton. "They're progressing well on that. The actual walls and stuff are going up. Basically all the foundation and stuff has been completed, and the water and sewer and everything installed."
