Chief Connie Big Eagle “can’t imagine living anywhere else” than Ocean Man First Nation. We asked her what she loved about living and working in this small Southeast community, and Chief Connie explained that, although Ocean Man is a relatively small First Nation reserve, they have many amenities like playgrounds, a ball diamond, the Laura Big Eagle Park, the Comuniplex, a band hall, and miles of natural beauty, like the Ocean Man Hills.

“We’re Assiniboin, or Nakota (the other word for our Nation),” she added, “And the people here are so friendly, our landscape is so beautiful, we have strong leadership, and we’re a progressive First Nation.”

So as a progressive First Nation, Chief Connie told us that they have many projects underway in town; one being the development and building of additional housing. Currently, Ocean Man has 70 houses and will be adding four more this year.

She adds, “We make great neighbours, and we have great neighbours, and we’re here to participate in any joint ventures that our neighbouring communities are interested in!”

From neighbour to neighbour, congratulations to Ocean Man First Nation for being our Town Salute of the day!
