The 18U AA South East Goldwings secured a trip to the South Final with a 3-0 win over the Swift Current Wildcats on Sunday. Meanwhile, the 18U AA Estevan Bruins beat the Regina Rangers 6-3 for their second sweep of the postseason.

The Goldwings trailed the best-of-three Saskatchewan Female Hockey League second-round series heading into the weekend, but tied it with a 3-0 win in Swift Current Friday night.

Kara Zelyck turned in her second-consecutive shutout Sunday in Midale.

McKenna Walls opened the scoring on the powerplay just under five minutes into the game. Lauren Hassler made it 2-0 in the first. And Jada Naviaux closed the book on Swift Current, making it 3-0 with 45 seconds remaining in the third.

Katelyn Thackeray assisted on the first two South East goals.

The Gold Wings, who ranked second in the South, will face the top-ranked Regina Rebels next. Dates have yet to be announced.


An undefeated postseason continued Sunday night for the Estevan Apex Bruins in the SAAHL, as they eliminated the Regina Rangers with a 6-3 win at Affinity Place.

Strahn Douglas had two goals and an assist, Jordan Marcotte had a goal and two assists, and Carter Beck posted three assists for Estevan.

Spencer Copeland, James Mann, and Landon Kaban had the other Bruins goals. Mason Fichter added two assists, and Emmett McCarthy had one.

Ty Fehrenbach made 18 saves for the win.

Estevan now has to wait for the best-of-five series between the top-seed Regina Vics and fourth-place Melville Millionaires to wrap up. Melville leads it 2-1.
