The provincial government announced Friday they were expanding access to take-home naloxone kits in the province, making the kits available at more than 70 pharmacies throughout the province. This increases the number of locations where the kits are available to 225 across 76 communities.

Naloxone can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Residents who are at risk of an opioid overdose, or friends and family who may witness an overdose, can get the training and kits from any of the locations in the province.

"The loss of any life to overdose is a tragedy" Mental Health and Addictions Minister Everett Hindley said. "These are our friends, our family members and our neighbours. Our government remains committed to expanding access to overdose prevention services and harm reduction supplies including Take Home Naloxone kits."

The take-home naloxone kits have been available since 2015, and more than 29,000 have been distributed. Since the start of the program, over 6,800 have been confirmed to have been used to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose.

You can find more information on the kits, including where they are available, on the provincial government website
