After a long month of hot and dry weather Estevan is finally experiencing some rain.

"It's going to be pretty localized rain, right now that station in Estevan is only showing 1.4 mm of rain there so not a lot of rain is being collected at the Environment Canada station in Estevan," explained Regional Meteorologist John Paul Craigg.

"Generally with this rainfall across Southern Saskatchewan places have seen anywhere between a couple of milometers to around 10 to 12 mm. We're off to a good start for August in terms of precipitation and hopefully it's a sign of things to come."

We are expected to get rain over the weekend as well.

"We've got a low pressure system that passed through the Southern portion of the province and it's brought some rain and a little bit of thunderstorm activity with it, luckily it looks like another area of low pressure system will be pushing through on Friday into Saturday for the same regions and potentially more rain to most of Southern Saskatchewan. It doesn't look like a lot right now but I'm sure any rain at this point is welcome," he shared.

"More rain is expected on the way and more general rainfall it looks like is on the way, so that's good news for areas through Southern Saskatchewan that are looking pretty parched."

Although Estevan has gotten some rain it's still not enough to resolve crop issues.

"It's not enough rain to make up for the lack of precipitation that most of Southern Saskatchewan has seen through July but also through the spring. You need a lot more rain to make up for that descent in moisture but also to start to build up towards the average for August, but either way a little more rain will be welcome," expressed John Paul Craigg.

Temperatures have dropped a bit during the rain fall but are expected to pick back up again shortly.

"Right now Estevan's sitting at 14° which is quite a bit lower than average for this time of year, an average daytime high in Estevan is 27° and right now you're closer to the average low which is 12°. It's quite a bit colder than average but temperatures are expected to start to rebound slowly, tomorrow we're forecasting a high of 23° and by Friday we're forecasting a high of 24°. You'll probably have to wait till mid next week before you see temperatures threatening to make it to the 30° mark again."

"Humidity right now is around 98% with temperatures rising to 17° today, humidity will still stay very high. Expect humidity levels to be elevated but with temperatures around 23° as a day time high tomorrow, it won't feel that bad," he stated.
