The source of the smoke haze that made its way through Estevan has puzzled a number of different people throughout the city. It was thick enough that those with respiratory problems may have been affected by it.

According to Sarah Hoffman of Environment Canada, their equipment never picked up a reduction in visibility or the presence of smoke, but that's because their equipment is located at the Estevan Airport north of town. The smoke, according to most reports, stayed south of town.

"Looking in the United States, there's nothing (for smoke) mentioned at the stations there, looking at satellite and it looks quite cloudy just south of Estevan so it's hard to tell, it's always difficult when there's low clouds in the area."

The Estevan Fire Department was never given any reports of a wildfire burning and was never dispatched either.

Most signs point towards a controlled burn in a field somewhere south of town, but there has not been any confirmation yet.
