The rifle hunting season on white-tail deer will open in the Southeast on Sunday November 20th. While hunting is a great hobby to bring residents in the Southeast into nature it always pays to be prepared.

"The number one safety tip, would be to read your regulations guide and the trappers guide, if you're following the laws in the guide, you should be safe out there." advises Local Conservation Officer Chad Shapley.

While in the wild it is recommended to carry emergency supplies in the case that there is need of them. Such as a first-aid kit, water proof matches, a map and compass, water, food and warm clothing.

"It is also advisable to make sure you follow gun safety tips learned in hunter safety, the basics are what keeps people safe out there. Things like keeping the gun unloaded and safety locked can save lives." added Shapley.

Some tips in the hunter safety manual include but are not limited to; proper attire, such as the blaze orange, or scarlet red, sold in many stores carrying outdoor supplies. As well as being aware of the surroundings and how to request the aid of near by hunters. The general sign that another hunter may need help, due to injury or being lost is three shots fired into the sky.
