The Rural Municipality of Cambria held an open house on Monday to showcase their new shop.

The new building will house all the maintenance equipment, as well as performing repairs on the equipment when needed. The upgrade will allow the RM building to hold 3 graders in addition to tractors with mowers.  In comparison, the previous shop was only able to hold two graders at a time.

“Just being able to get the equipment in and especially in the wintertime when we're doing snow removal and that. We would have to park graders outside,” said R.M. of Cambria, Reeve Darwin Daae.

A foreman and 4-6 workers depending on the season work out of the shop. They are responsible for all maintenance work in the R.M. including; road maintenance, mowing ditches, snow plowing, and looking after road signs.

The previous shop had been in use for just over 50 years and is tentatively planned to become the new home of the Torquay Fire Department.

“The fire hall we have now is quite small, and the trucks barely fit so this one would more than accommodate our fire department,” said Daae.
