For a couple of days near the end of last week, the active case count for COVID-19 rose in Saskatchewan after slowly but surely declining all week. Today, the number of active cases fell for the second day in a row, this time rather dramatically so.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority reported 147 new cases of the virus today for a total of 43,288. There were also 266 recoveries reported for a total of 40,645. There were no new deaths in patients who tested positive for the virus today.

With all of that data in mind, active cases have fallen to 2141. There are 156 people hospitalized due to the virus. The seven day average of daily new cases is 204. This is the lowest seven-day average in Saskatchewan since March 31.

Today's new cases are located in the Far North West, 2; North West, 11; North Central, 9; North East, 6; Saskatoon, 43; Central East, 8; Regina, 35; South West, 10; South Central, 11; and South East, 9. There are three more new cases with pending residence information.

There were few cases in the South East today, but Estevan's subzone once again accounted for the majority of them. Of the nine cases in the South East, seven were in South East subzone 4, which includes Estevan. Active cases in the area fell, but still stand at 130. There are a total of 205 active cases in the South East.

The next threshold for reopening is 70 percent of the population over the age of 30 receiving their first dose of the vaccine. As of today, 61 percent have received their first.
