The long weekend is a great time to get some spring cleaning done. In Estevan, Operation Clean Sweep will wrap up with a free landfill weekend from May 18 to 20.

The free landfill weekend is open to Estevan residents only and does not include commercial properties or rural residents. ID will be required to use the service.

The landfill will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Furniture, grass clippings, tree branches, and regular household garbage, including appliances, are all encouraged to be dropped off at the landfill.

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, Freon appliances, mattresses, box springs, and any hazardous materials will not be accepted.

All loads must be completely covered and secured to prevent littering while in transport.

Councillor Lindsay Clark said that it is a great time to beautify the city and that the Business Improvement District has already been working on cleaning up the back alleys.

“It just really does set a good tone for the city when you’re out there cleaning and you can make a difference by just taking care of your property,” said Clark. “It just makes you feel better about your community, and I hope that everybody can take the time to spend a little bit on their properties and make them better.”
