While there were many changes in the village of Torquay this year, the closeness of the community is what stands out the most to Torquay Mayor.

Mike Strachan, Mayor of Torquay said he was proud of how the community was able to rally behind the recently relocated Monkman/Mavin family after their family suffered an accident earlier this year.

“The way the communities came together is really exciting and it’s one of those things you don’t see as much in bigger centers.”

Torquay has also had a lot of excitement as there have been a lot of new faces moving into the community, from within Saskatchewan and from across the country.

One of the most exciting changes that took place in Torquay was the work completed on the new water treatment plant.

The reverse osmosis plant is scheduled to be finished by the end of this year said Strachan.

“We’re excited for the better water quality for our residents.”

The water treatment plant now has credit card access so rural residents can also benefit.

“They come in, tap their cards, and can load water.”

The community center underwent a governance review and as a result, some exciting changes took place, explained Strachan.

“We have a hair Salon, a local artist, and the over 50 club has also moved in there.”

Some other services in the community center are the library and the community hall which is available to rent for events and celebrations.

In 2024 Torquay will look to work with the federal and provincial government to make infrastructural changes.

“One of the things we see most is that sometimes we are overlooked in those infrastructure programs. It’s kind of like a lottery,” said Strachan.

The projects they are looking into are upgrades to roads, culverts, and pipes in the ground.

Strachan urges people to follow the community center's Facebook page to keep up with the exciting events that are happening in Torquay.
