Around 58 kilometers west of the Manitoba border and only 26 from the American, Oxbow is a hidden gem of a farming community on the edge of Souris River Valley. Along with a large farming community, there's also a fair amount of oil workers out in the area as well.

"We actually have about 60 different community organizations in town that people volunteer for, so very busy," says Tammi Scott, Communications Coordinator with the Town of Oxbow. "The pool and the park is the centre of activity in the summer with swimming and ball and that kind of thing, and in the winter the figure skaters and hockey players fire up."

The town recently started construction on a brand new swimming pool and are hoping to have opening day July 1st of next year, though the town has many other projects they're working on as well.

"Another big project that we've had going for a while is a stage in Bow Valley Par, and it's completed and it's a beautiful open air stage that can be used for our big event every year which is the jamboree and can also be used by other organizations too."

The town is also starting a new fundraiser this year as well, a big 'Chase the Ace' lottery that many other communities are doing, and all the money raised will be going back into the community.

As well as fun stuff in the community, the town is looking to get some better readings on their water quality as they are bringing in new meters that can be read remotely and provide more accurate readings on homeowners' water bills.

A small, beautiful community with tons of great recreation to take part in, the Town of Oxbow should be a stop on any road trip through the southeast.
