The Estevan Board of Trade, Tourism and Commerce went on a recruiting mission last week. They attended the Workwest Career Caravan in Saskatoon.

After previously attending national job fairs in Toronto, the TTC elected to attend a career fair that was more closer to home in hopes of finding possible workers that have more direct working experience in places like the oilfield.

They were successful in that front, as Marketing Coordinator Kevin D'Souza says  "I was surprised by the amount of engineers and oilfield workers that were unemployed from not only Saskatoon but from surrounding areas." D'Souza added "I was pleasantly surprised by how many of the workers were willing to uproot their families and relocate to Estevan." D'Souza also commented "that quite a few of people knew a lot about Estevan, and that there was a lot of oil activity."

D'Souza said overall the trip to Saskatoon was a success and said that the TTC will be looking to attend more career fairs that are closer to home in the future. He explains "you start within and if don't have the capacity within Estevan, you then explore in areas close to Estevan, rather than jumping away."
