A local golf professional is getting some recognition as the PGA of Saskatchewan prepares to announce its year-end award winners.

Amanda Minchin, the head golf pro at TS&M Woodlawn, is one of six nominees for the Graham Coulter Trophy - Professional of the Year Award.

"Pretty flattered...you're nominated by your peers, by your zone, so unexpected," Minchin said. "It's a pretty elusive crowd there, so just honoured and humbled by that. It's just a testament to the course I work at and the team I have, because none of that would be possible without them. So you surround yourself with good people and good things happen."

Minchin is joined by fellow nominees Davidson Matyczuk, Darcy Myers, Earl Scott, McLaren Taylor, and Ryan Wells. Sloane Harder and Shawn Smith have been nominated for Assistant of the Year. The winner will be voted on by their fellow golf professionals.

Minchin added that she's part of a tight knit group of golf professionals in the province.

"It's pretty cool...our zone is small but mighty," Minchin said. "So you get a chance to really get to know all your PGA professionals, and you get to know the ones that have been in business for 30 plus years, and that's pretty neat."

The winner will be announced on Oct. 25 during day one of the PGA of Saskatchewan Buying Show.
